If you are looking to travel abroad, you might want to look into going to South Korea. South Korea is a modern and hi-tech country that has a lot to offer visitors. It is also very ancient, going back thousands of years.
Where Is Korea?
South Korea is located in East Asia. Near Japan and China. And that one little funny rocket man place. Korea has also had the distinct disadvantage of being invaded several times because of it’s location in the world.
Where Is Seoul?
Seoul is the capital of South Korea (not North). It’s located about halfway up the peninsula. Seoul is also one of the biggest cities in the world and very modern while retaining the traditional charm. The city is within shooting range of North Korea.
Why You Should Visit Seoul
There are plenty of reasons to visit the capital city. These can be varied and dependent on what your actual reasons are too. And there are plenty of good times of the year to go to the city as well. It isn’t dependent on you following a travel guide.
Gyeongbokgung
One of the many places you might want to check out is Gyeongbokgung. It was the first palace of the Joseon dynasty established in the late 1300s. It was the premier palace under Sejong the Great. Sejong was the one that established Hangul (or the Korean writing system that we see today) during this period of time.
It was dismantled during the Japanese in 1910s. This was shipped off to different places and was only later restored. It is now one of the best sites to see in the city.
There is even a National Fol Museum of Korea located on premises. This was built during the Park Chung Hee era. This started the restoration that has continued to this day. The palace has had several plans of restoration since the 1990s.
Changdeokgung
This was the second palace built during the Joseon dynasty. This blends nature with architecture. There is an element in feng shui that was incorporated within the design too. Some think this shift was to start afresh with a new political structure.
There is an emphasis to move through the palace from the most public to the most private spaces. This was in line with elements of Chinese philosophy that was happening during this period of time. There are several elements of nature taking a priority in the palace layout as well.
Myeongdong
Myeongdong is the shopping district of Seoul. This was built up for shopping and other boutiques. It is also a popular place for protests and political uprisings. It is officially designated as a special Tourism Promotion Area.
It is also an area where the Lotte Department store is located (that recently expanded). On average, 2 million people visit the area daily. Several foreigners stated that shopping there is there favorite activity.
Namsan Tower
This is a radio tower that was built for the city. There are several subsections that have different things. These are things that can draw visitors into these areas. It is also imperative that one takes the time to see these areas.
One can get there via cable car or walking. Walking can cause blisters on the feet from all of the climbing. The cable car is affordable and is a very good way to see the views on the way up to the mountain.
Autumn in Seoul 2022
My recommendation would be to spend autumn in Seoul. There is plenty of beautiful colors associated with the area. The weather is temperate and perfect for sightseeing. There’s a lot of opportunity to get out and about with the seasons.
I would recommend seeing the palaces during this period of time. The colors are outstanding here. The walk throughs are also perfect for taking plenty of pictures.
Autumn in Seoul 2022 was an amazing time. It was a pleasant autumn and had mild daytime temperatures. There were plenty of people foliage that changed into these bright colors. The golden and red leaves were seen best at the Ilsan Lake and Seokcheon Lake.
The autumn in Seoul 2022 was also a time where there were plenty of local festivals as well. This was met with people spending plenty of time hiking and walking around. This was a good period of time for many visitors to the country.
